The Leidos Research Support Team is looking for a talented Post-Doctoral researcher to join our team supporting the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Pittsburgh, PA as part of the Workforce Development Program. The researcher will collaborate with nationally recognized researchers and data scientists to develop predictive models on wellbore cement and design cement slurries with improved properties.
TERM OF COMMITMENT: This research position is intended to be a term position, with varying levels of commitment that are not expected to last longer than 1 year. You will be informed prior to applying what length of commitment is anticipated. Also, those who successfully fill a term position, may be invited to apply for an additional term. Location: Pittsburg, PA
•Provide technical expertise in planning and execution of the technical work scope within projects assigned.
•Stay abreast of current opportunities and research trends within the knowledge domain and share knowledge across the broader research teams.
•Develop machine learning models address wellbore conditions and the chemical/physical properties of cement.
•Collaborate with the team to ensure integration of experimental work into machine learning models. This will involve rheological and mechanical properties testing on cementing and plugging materials.
• Developing techniques to analyze experimental results on cement cycling and material failure as related to a down-scaled well system consisting of casing-cement-rock on a computer tomography scanner.
• Study well plugging materials, conduct experiments, and identify measures to improve plugging material and cement properties.
•Provide weekly and monthly technical updates to project managers.
•Prepare and submit results of research for publication through the appropriate channels as needed warranted.
•Document and report on any intellectual property developed in the course of work.
•Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field with less than 2 years of experience postgraduate.
•Advanced skills in Python and MATLAB programming, with ability to utilize machine learning with predictive modeling.
•Strong applied mathematical skills.
• Educational background in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering preferred.
•Prior experience within the industry sector (i.e. oil rig, cement manufacturing) to gain familiarity with the industry expected to benefit most from this technology.
