The employee will participate in studies relating to a variety of geologic data sources and involve data management, curation, collection, organization, parsing, and production of training data sets. These studies will have larger applications that enhance access to critical data and advance carbon storage. This work will involve a multidisciplinary team participation alongside other data scientists, engineers, geologists and computer scientists to support the priorities of the DOE Fossil Energy and Carbon Management mission space.

• Producing training dataset for SmartParse image recognition/extraction
• Use and build upon existing python tools to extract and label images
• Build upon work using python, LabelIMG, YOLO (you only look once) model, and tensor flow
• Produce additional labeling data to refine and build on current classification capabilities
• Collaborating with geologists and other science researchers to assist each other in accomplishing project-related tasks.
• Building relationships with internal and external clients.
• Bachelor’s degree with a degree in computer science, geology, geochemistry, geo-data, environmental science, with less than two years of experience.
• Background in working with a variety of different types of data and large data
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with geologic data, geologic systems, and geohazards is strongly preferred
• Evidence of substantive participation in the geospatial scientific community.
• Awareness and/or willingness to learn ArcGIS and other types of software and techniques for data management in a geologic context.
This research position is intended to be a term position, with varying levels of commitment that are not expected to last longer than 2 years. You will be informed prior to applying what length of commitment is anticipated. Also, those who successfully fill a term position, may be invited to apply for an additional term.
