Job Description:

The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS)/Airspace Team on the NISC IV contract has an opening for an UAS Airspace Analyst to provide technical support to the Federal Aviation Administration in maintaining critical office operations to aid in the development and maintenance of the National Airspace System (NAS).  Provide support through creation, maintenance and distribution of aeronautical data, charts, and associated products for air traffic control and the aviation community.  Effective coordination is required between numerous government offices, departments and teams. The support to these charts must be accurate and must be accomplished within a specific timeframe to meet critical chart publication timelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide National Airspace System users/stakeholders with accurate and timely aeronautical data.
  • Learn Aeronautical Information.
  • Evaluate and process incoming aeronautical source information and/or base/topographic information source data.
  • Apply Standard Operating Procedures, specifications, orders and other guidance to update aeronautical data.
  •  Coordinate, as needed, with FAA, DoD, or other civil/industry stakeholders as needed to resolve source issues, errors, or questions.
  • Analyze and evaluate the National Flight Data Digest (NFDD), aerial imagery and other authorized sources to revise/maintain aeronautical information within FAA data sets.
  • Utilize various software to produce charts.
  • Assist in analyzing and maintaining air navigation charts and related publications.
  • Analyze and chart Airspace on FAA VFR, IFR and UAS related charts.
  • Use AIS’s production enterprise hardware and software platforms to analyze data and make the computations necessary to produce finished data products.
  • Collaborate with FAA Airspace team members and FAA Management.
  • Evaluate legal descriptions of amended Airspace dockets published in the federal register.
  • Analyze the recreation of airspace amendments relevant to airspace review due to the decommissioning of the omnidirectional range (VOR) navigation aid as part of the VOR Minimum Operational Network (MON) program and the cancellation of the associated instrument flight procedures.
  • Maintain and publish the Aeronautical Information Systems (AIS) database applications of Special Use Airspace (SUA) and Class Airspace supported by Aeronautical Information Services.
  • Process SUA Memos received from the Airspace Policy and Regulations Group and publish them in the National Airpace System Resource (NASR) database.
  • Review and update the Aeronautical Navigation Database System (ANDS) for the effective cycle end dates.
  • Have a working knowledge of map definition language, Aeronautical Information Exchange Model, ESRI shapefiles, other ESRI GIS data storage formats, and NASR subscriber files.
  • Evaluate aeronautical data issues and determine if a Notice to Airmen or other user notice is required due to a potential safety of flight issue with published aeronautical information.
  • Perform documentation and file management as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Geography, Aerospace, or related discipline from an accredited College or University and at least four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Bentley Microstation or CAD software.
  • Aviation Knowledge or experience.
  • Knowledge in database creation and maintenance.
