The Leidos Innovation Center currently has an exciting opening for an Optical Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, Ohio office.
The engineer will conduct research and development in the areas of hardware testing and/or modeling/simulation in the infrared sensor and countermeasure domains. Addressing our customers’ challenging mission requirements necessitates research and development of new capabilities as well as making improvements to existing systems. The successful candidate will be required to quickly develop an understanding of legacy efforts and engineer improvements to meet new requirements. Additionally, the engineer will be called upon to develop new and innovative solutions to challenging problems, helping our customers provide top-notch solutions for the Warfighter. The successful candidate will work as part of integrated team, but should also be proficient at conducting independent research.
Test infrared sensors to analyze and assess their capabilities
Process test data, distill it, and brief results to leadership/customers
Design and build test beds for sensor characterization
Innovate upon legacy solutions and invent new solutions
Develop infrared sensor modeling and simulation software tools
Participate in flight tests to assess infrared countermeasure techniques
Brief your work at workshops / conferences
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or similar field
Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
MATLAB and/or Python programming experience
Baseline understanding of physics, optical design, and signal processing
Strong communication and organization skills
Master’s degree (or higher)
Optics minor or experience with optical systems
Experience working with infrared systems
Zemax and/or Code-V experience
