The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a Data Scientist to support the Warfighter Performance Department at the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT. NSMRL conducts research and investigates the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of naval personnel in operational and non-operational settings.
The ideal candidate shall:
Provide data analytic support in the areas of psychological and behavioral research, specifically in predictive validation of submariner screening and selection data.
Develop and evaluate appropriate methodologies, write standards of procedure to perform appropriate methodologies, and perform quality assurance checks to ensure that appropriate methodologies are followed consistently.
Support NSMRL staff and other professional entities on current and future research projects.
Manage and maintain databases for research studies.
Prepare summaries and publications for non-research technical and general audiences.
Report findings, outcomes and recommendations to the fleet through formal meetings, presentations, briefings and publications.
Coordinate approval of publication of technical information.
Work is to be performed on a government installation. The normal work week is Monday - Friday 0800 to 1630.
The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
MS or PhD in a quantitative or technical field (computer science, mathematics, statistics) with at least 1 year of post-graduate experience in a formal research or applied setting and a minimum of one year in data science/analytics . Applicants without a graduate degree in a quantitative or technical field may be considered with at least 5-7 years of relevant experience in data science/analytics.
Outstanding quantitative modeling and statistical analysis skills, including expertise in causal inference and machine learning.
Expertise in at least one statistical software package (e.g., R, MATLAB, Python).
Experience in human subject research (especially psychological and behavioral research) will be given strong preference.
Experience within a Government or military organization.
