Looking for individuals who can provide surge support on the Enterprise Security Architecture contract within Military Veterans Health. The program will need subject matter experts to help as needed on a short-term, ad hoc basis projects as they relate to cyber security guidance and policy. We especially see individuals with a strong technical background who are excellent writers and researchers. The work requires general familiarity with Federal regulations and governance on cybersecurity and privacy because to support writing cybersecurity policy and guidance.

Candidates should have specialized technical and security expertise as well as exposure to newer and established technologies, including Electronic Health Records (EHR), cloud computing, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), specialized networks (i.e., software and security perimeter and defined networks) Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and machine learning, analytic ecosystems, and medical devices

Senior-level staff and technical individual contributors should possess extensive expertise in one or more technical domain areas. Senior-level contributors have the responsibility to help develop and document standardized cybersecurity solutions and approaches to undefined, complex technical issues and problems.

Applicants for this remote or telecommuting position can perform this job anywhere in the U.S.

Successful candidates can expect to divide their time between two (2) types of assignments. First, they will assist in researching, developing, authoring and presenting implementing cybersecurity guidance and security architectural standards for the VA Office of Enterprise Security Architecture (ESA) Architects may take lead roles in promoting and refining new and existing ESA initiatives, direction and guidance through collaborative activities with other VA departments and stakeholders.

Second, the security architects will act as cybersecurity health consults to security and privacy features and capabilities to execute architectural risk assessments and create security packages for proposed and existing VA IT systems, environments and devices, spanning concept, design, implementation and post-deployment phases.  Architects will interface with key VA stakeholders within the various VA product and security teams. Employees may also provide subject matter expertise from time to time to other Leidos Health teams on an ad hoc basis.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED-Required Skills:

  • Bachelors of Science in computer science, information technology or cybersecurity, and 15 years of relevant experience or equivalent of additional years of experience in lieu of degree

  • Advanced IT cybersecurity certifications (CISM, CISA, CIPP, CEH, CISSP, or the equivalent)

  • Candidate must be able to pass a VA High/BI Public Trust background investigation, including a National Agency Check (NAC) covering the past seven (7) years

  • Demonstrated expertise in research and analysis of exceptionally complex cybersecurity problems and processes confronting US governments systems as well as knowledge and capabilities in the areas of medical technology, medical environments (clinical and research) and medical devices or medical IoT. Specific cybersecurity interest areas may also include applying block chain technology and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) to healthcare cybersecurity or the use of Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality (VR/AR) in either clinical or support applications.  

  • Must possess expertise in multiple areas of information technology such as but not limited to: enterprise security architecture, cybersecurity engineering, telecommunications systems design, IT operations, risk assessments, vulnerability management, cloud technologies, system security, the Internet of Things (IoT) and privacy for both traditional and next-generation IT digital architectures

  • Familiar with creating and interpreting security diagram overlays and updates, determining security requirements, and security mitigation implementation

HOW TO STAND OUT IN THE CROWD-Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with cybersecurity practices and trends for US government information technology, especially at VA or DoD, although we value similar cybersecurity experience acquired at other federal agencies or departments

  • Familiarity with one or more US government initiatives such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and Privacy Framework, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), the Risk Management Framework (RMF), Federal Identity Credential and Access Management (FICAM) or Electronic Health Records Management (EHRM)

  • Familiarity with healthcare and medical security and privacy requirements under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA),  Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations governing the use of medical devices as well as other federal mandates. Knowledge of assessment frameworks such as HITRUST
