Job Description:

Reporting to the PLC Software Manager, you’ll be specifically responsible for the successful execution of code development for PLC(s) within our client base/organization. You must be able to work independently or part of a team. You will need to be able to manage your time efficiently to be able to meet scheduled dates.

Key responsibilities and essential duties will include:

  • Develop PLC code from drawings or to a customer’s specification.

  • Responsible for developing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of PLC and HMI software for automated hand baggage security conveyor systems using Siemens PLC and ASiMON software for its safety software.

  • Responsible for developing hardware configuration for the system to design and develop the PLC software. The hardware configuration included profinet, profibus, or ASI as per the specification.

  • Responsible for developing, commissioning, and testing of safety PLC software for the automated systems, developed using different safety software such as Sick FlexiSoft Designer, PNOZ MultiConfigurator or Bihl Wiedemann Suite, Siemens TIA safety and Allen Bradley safety PLC.

  • Responsible for testing and commissioning and troubleshooting for PLC, HMI software for automated automobile plants and warehouses.

  • Collaborating with different X-Ray machine engineers for designing and programming the interfacing of the automated hand baggage security conveyor system.

  • Liaising with the IT and software engineers for designing and programming the interfacing between the automated system and the MES software of the factory, automated hand baggage security conveyor system and baggage analysis software.

  • Involved in Research and Development projects for hand baggage system and check-in bag handling system.

  • Teaming with mechanical engineers and electricians for installation and commissioning of the project.

  • Onsite commissioning and I/O testing / Setup

  • Training operators after commissioning, to ensure correct and safe system operations.

  • Actively participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test) and Safety buyoffs.

  • First line of contact for control related issues for hand baggage systems installed at various sites globally.

  • On support calls to troubleshoot issues related to hand baggage systems installed at various sites globally.

  • Compliance to functional safety and standards.

  • Effective in planning, setting up goals and objectives.

  • Experienced in managing and handling pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills including the ability to communicate at a detailed level with other software developers and IT managers.

  • Liaising with Project management, Engineering and Installation Teams

  • Liaising with End User / Customer on a technical level.

  • Continually building relationships with internal stakeholders to achieve the successful completion of projects.

About you:

You’ll have a record of accomplishment in PLC software engineering and demonstrable industry knowledge of developing and executing code for PLC’s in an industrial automation environment, coupled with:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline, with proven experience of working successfully in a similar role and working environment.

  • Fully experienced in using Siemens S7-TIA with safety integrated, WinCC and Rockwell RSLogix.

  • You’ll be a self-starter who enjoys autonomy and able to work with minimal supervision, take responsibility for your work and be familiar with the full lifecycle of PLC software-based solutions to support the company’s product range

  • Knowledge of Cimplicity and Wonderware

  • Previous experience in all or some of the following areas: 

    • Automation

    • Mechanical/material handling

    • Conveyor systems

    • Pneumatics

    • Hydraulics

    • Robotics

    • Control systems

Although the role is to be based from our UK based centre of excellence hub, the successful candidate will be required to regularly travel to other locations within the UK and worldwide, therefore a valid passport and full driving licence is mandatory.
