The Aviation Integration, Maintenance, Sustainment & Safety Branch of the Leidos Airborne Solutions Operations has an opening for a Mechanical Design Manger to provide leadership and management of a Mechanical design team for the integration of missions systems for manned aircraft surveillance platforms and ground stations. We are looking for motivated individuals who want to join a team dedicated to excellence and continuous progress. In this fast-paced environment, you will lead a team of mechanical engineers in design and production activities providing leadership in the design and development for integration of mission systems on airborne ISR assets.
Lead team of mechanical engineers in the design of aircraft modifications to support various avionics and sensors providing design oversight and guidance using industry best practices.
Mentor engineers and provide training opportunities to expand breadth of knowledge at both the individual and team levels.
Develop project plans by estimating level of effort (LOE), developing schedules, and determining skillsets required to execute designs through design gates (SRR, PDR, CDR, PRR, etc.).
Inform Liaison Engineers of design intent during production and integration phases for issues arising leading to deviations.
Develop short and long term strategies for design improvements.
Support proposals including technical writing, developing conceptual mechanical designs, and developing basis of estimates (BOEs).
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
Minimum of eight (8) years of engineering experience with a minimum of four (4) years of aviation industry experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Knowledgeable in FAA and Army airworthiness requirements.
Strong background in airframe structural modifications and experience with unique installations.
Proficiency in SolidWorks.
Experience with laser metrology.
Active DoD Secret security clearance and eligible to obtain an TS/SCI security clearance.
Be capable of working independently or as a team.
Possess strong problem-solving, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
Strong desire to grow and learn new technologies.
Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
Experience with DoD avionics, to include but not limited to, communication, navigation, COMSEC, and aircraft survivability equipment repair and modification.
Broad technology experience in systems engineering, requirements tracking, testing, and validation.
Experience developing systems for airborne ISR programs and sensors.
Knowledgeable in NAVAIR and Air Force airworthiness requirements.
