The Leidos Research Support Team supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory is seeking an Intern to study fluid flow within rocks to join our Team in Morgantown, WV. This opportunity is expected to support research onsite full time in the summer of 2022 with tapered hours during the academic year. This opportunity will allow side by side execution of research with world-class scientists and engineers using state of the art equipment to contribute to new areas of basic and applied research.

The employee will participate in studies relating to a variety of geologic applications related to Carbon Storage. This opportunity will utilize a computerized tomography (CT) scanner on diverse rock samples to study multiphase fluid flow, subsurface transport modeling, buoyancy driven estimates of migration, permeability, CO2 storage related to mineral composition and pore geometry, and prepare scientific writings based on their results. This work will involve a multidisciplinary team participation alongside other data scientists, engineers, geologists and computer scientists to support the priorities of the DOE Fossil Energy and Carbon Management mission space.

Primary Responsibilities
· Collaborating with scientists/engineers to assist with designing and performing CT testing on rock samples
· Working with the team on image processing, analysis, and application of scientific data
· Collaborating with geologists and other science researchers to assist each other in accomplishing project-related tasks
· Building relationships with internal and external clients
· Preparation and presentation of scientific writings
Basic Qualifications
· Candidates must currently be attending or enrolled in a university working towards a bachelor (senior), master, or doctorate degree in geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or have course work in these areas
· Candidates should typically carry at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA, with demonstrated leadership experience through community or campus activities. Recent graduates without enrollment to the next level of education cannot be considered
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
· A background in relative permeability, multiphase flow in rocks, and/or CO2 brine systems is preferred
