Job Description:

Leidos is seeking a Strategy Development and Customer Engagement Leader to engage in business development, strategy development and customer engagement activities across our Government Health and Safety Solutions (GHSS) portfolio.  This position location is in the Bethesda/Gaithersburg, MD area with local and extended travel expected up to 10% of the time.  The position is focused on developing strategy, enhancing the service offering, and establishing and maintaining a high level of customer intimacy within GHSS existing and target customers (including but not limited to the Indian Health Service and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), continuing to build the Leidos reputation, strategy and business pipeline, and growing business within the GHSS domain.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leverage previous government and industry expertise to help identify, develop, and implement near-term and long-term business strategies that provide the business an opportunity to grow revenue
  • Support development and implementation the GHSS’ strategy based on market research and Corporate direction
  • Identify, develop, and implement tactical plans for how to foster new capability development within the GHSS Operation
  • Work collaboratively with Business Development team members and other sales support personnel to determine how to achieve top priority business growth opportunities
  • Proactively identify new business opportunities.  Provide insight into current customer preferences, competitive environment assessments, and incumbent strengths and weaknesses.
  • Coordinate and conduct meetings with customers, competitors, clients, and teammates to develop market insight on requirements, acquisition strategy, acquisition timing, and contract vehicle choices.
  • Work with program and management team in call plan development and execution
  • Participate as required in the Leidos business development process, including pipeline reviews, opportunity gate reviews, black hat sessions, and proposal reviews.
  • Collaborate with Leidos Account Managers, IDIQ PMs, other BD personnel and capture and line management to support cross enterprise objectives and customer engagement.
  • Support overall strategic planning and linking pursuits/capture activities which support the business development metrics for awards, submits, and pipeline.
  • Interact routinely with various levels of management, functional leads, other staff, and customers.
  • Brief business development status to senior management when material updates occur and as required by the Leidos business development process.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred in related technical field, and at least 15 years of prior relevant experience. (additional education, training or experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing and facilitating corporate vision and business strategy and setting direction for goal accomplishment
  • Proven strategic and technical thought leadership to HHS client environments (including but not limited to CMS, FDA, and IHS
  • Develop and deliver presentations on new Health IT and strategic support solutions to HHS senior leadership and align Leidos capabilities to HHS needs across the Operation
  • Proven track record of successful business development at a variety of acquisition sizes.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills and strong management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated access to and relationships with key HHS government customers and industry partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Leadership skills to develop, organize and execute significant strategy and customer engagement activities plans.
  • Prior experience supporting business development and capture efforts for HHS opportunities.
  • Strong, respected relationships within the HHS community
  • Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, division managers, and peers in the Group and across Leidos.
  • Self-starter and ability to manage time independently without direct supervision.
  • The ability to operate at the senior level and influence, negotiate and close.
  • Candidates must be US Citizens and be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare, health research, public health, health administration background or education is beneficial
  • A technical degree is highly desired
  • Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision, establish solid working relationships with technical staff, division managers, and peers across Leidos.
  • Self-starter and ability to manage time independently without direct supervision.
  • The ability to operate at the senior level and influence, negotiate and close.

COVID Response

Effective October 1, in order to enter Leidos facilities in the US and to attend Leidos business events outside our facilities, employees will be required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or maintain proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 96 hours of entry.  Effective January 18, 2022, all Leidos employees must be fully vaccinated (2 weeks past final dose) unless they are entitled to a legal accommodation.
