Job Description:

The Leidos Corporation was selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as the Prime Contractor for supporting U.S. research sites in Antarctica. The Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) program team is based in Centennial, Colorado and is funded by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF).

Leidos is looking for a Fire Protection Technician, who will be part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) team managing and maintaining Fixed Fire Safety Systems (FFSS) at all US Antarctic Program locations. This role includes optimization of preventative and predictive Fire Systems maintenance, developing and supporting system upgrade projects, and taking an active role in the ASC Fixed Fire System work permitting process.

The successful candidate is expected to deploy yearly to Antarctica for 4 to 6 months. This position is comprised of both office work and field work supporting FFSS at USAP locations.

The Fire Protection Technician is responsible for:

  • Providing technical guidance on the design, installation, maintenance, and modification of all FFSS
  • Tracking and procurement of FFSS maintenance components
  • Soliciting and managing subcontract work
  • Providing peer review of work plans
  • Supporting the work permitting process
  • Planning and coordinating FFSS maintenance activities
  • Coordinating ITM activity at all USAP locations to ensure full-time and season ASC personnel have and maintain the proper qualifications and certifications required to perform assigned the ITM activities
  • Providing concurrence for all FFSS work permits
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Performing other duties as assigned

This position reports to Leidos ASC Facilities management and works within an integrated management team of Leidos and subcontract employees.  

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience; additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Current NICET Level II certification in Water-Based Systems or NICET Level III in Special Hazards Systems
  • Current NICET Level II certification Fire Alarm Systems
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards
  • Field experience including managing field changes, quality control, deliverables, redlining drawings, and other activities supporting work completion
  • Experience with procurement and material tracking
  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, to relay information
  • Experience with computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Experience installing, testing, inspecting, and maintaining fire safety systems including fire alarm systems and suppression systems
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
  • Current United States Passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and executing projects in remote and logistically challenging locations
  • Experience with Keltron Life Safety Event Management Systems
  • Experience with or certification from multiple manufacturers’ fire detection, alarm, and/or suppression systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Other Considerations:

  • Progress toward obtaining NICET Level III certification in Special Hazards Systems or NICET Level II certification in Water-Based Systems within 6 months of being hired

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors
  • Deployment to Antarctica is required in this position—deployment is contingent upon successful completion of the NSF physical qualification (PQ) process
  • Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 - $135,000.00
