Job Description:

The Payload Systems Engineer (PSE) Technical Coordinator oversees and directs the activities for the team of Payload Systems Engineers (PSEs) responsible for the pre-, post- and inflight support of Human Research Facility rack and sub-rack hardware as well as some software.  This support includes facility and hardware readiness, on-console systems expertise and console support which typically occurs overnight, and software coordination with Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Payload Operations and Integration Center (POIC). 

The PSE Technical Coordinator will:

  • Act as primary technical liaison to Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Payload Operations Integration Centre (POIC) and ROI functional groups.

  • Oversees the development and close-out of increment technical documents and anomaly reports

  • Ensures all technical roles and responsibilities are covered for various increments.

  • Maintains console certification and functions as a console operator which requires shift work.

  • Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for in-mission operations and anomaly resolution

  • Performs on-orbit Human Research Facility (HRF) Rack commanding in support of crew operations

  • Responsible for training Ground Support Personnel and crewmembers on HRF Racks and subrack hardware

  • Ensures data management for data collected on-orbit and distributes data to web-based data repository for PI access

  • Performs testing and verification activities for software and hardware used for on orbit science activities as well as various software tools used on console

  • Is primary POC to the Subtask Lead

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related field and at least 2 years experience.

  • Previous experience solving complex problems and working to develop solutions quickly.

  • Previous proven coordination experience.

  • Demonstrated technical competence in engineering and computing

  • Effective communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to perform in highly visible and stressful situations.

  • Must be reliable, adaptable, and capable of working in a team environment

  • Must be able to work various shifts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience at NASA

  • Project management training or experience

  • Coursework in software or programming and network knowledge

  • Previous console experience.

  • Programming skills (Visual Basic, .NET, or C#)

  • Data networking knowledge (encryption, network security, wireless access points, routers, firewalls, switches)

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to length investigation for non-U.S. persons
