The Electronic Warfare Division at Leidos has an opening for a Computational Fluid Dynamic engineer at Eglin AFB.
This is a technical engineering position performing computational fluid dynamics modeling and simulation for supersonic and hypersonic missiles. The candidate will perform gridding, computational fluid dynamics simulations, gas dynamics calculations, flow visualization, and workflow programming, using both local and DoD Distributed Supercomputing Resource Centers for massive deployment and monitoring of solutions and harvesting of results. These solutions will be used to generate multi-fidelity aerodynamic data and interfaced with computational structural dynamics models to advance research in fluid-thermal-structural interactions (FTSI) of high speed missiles.
Complexity: Develop innovative technical solutions thru research and integration of best practices. Employ ingenuity and creativity to integrate computational fluid dynamic models into efficient workflow processes to achieve customer research performance objectives.
Communication: Must communicate with Leidos airframe; guidance and control; and seeker research personnel, and interact daily with customer program leadership and team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.
Knowledge: Experience with supersonic and hypersonic computational fluid dynamic models with software such as Cart3D, Kestrel, FUN3D, US3D or equivalent is required. Knowledge of turbulence modeling and chemical equilibrium and non-equilibrium modeling is required. Experience with block structured and unstructured gridding with software such as Pointwise or equivalent is required. Experience with overset practices for complex airframe component interactions, including articulating control surfaces, is required. Ability to utilize DoD DSRC capabilities including deploy/run/harvest workflow scripting is required.
Education: Requires a BS in Aerospace, Mechanical or similar discipline and 4 years’ experience including experience in computational fluid dynamics.
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.
Demonstrated experience with fluid-thermal-structural interaction is highly desired. Knowledge of thermal non-equilibrium modeling is desired.
Experience with scientific programming using Fortran and Python is highly desired.
Knowledge of workflow process tools such as Dakota and Galaxy Simulation Builder software.
Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics for aircraft stability and control is desired.
