Job Description:
Leidos is seeking a Project Environmental Scientist to support environmental projects across the United States.
A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to travel domestically up to 25% of the time. Must be able to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.
When not traveling, work may be performed at one of the following Leidos office locations: Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Reston, Virginia; Twinsburg, Ohio. Remote work will also be considered.
The Project Environmental Scientist will support and manage environmental investigation and remediation projects, including task/project management; leading and directing task teams; planning field investigations; data analysis and interpretation; and lead investigation and project report preparation. Specific tasks will include defining project requirements and standards; preparing project work plans; preparing task management and technical reports; managing project cost and schedule; interface with client and stakeholder staff; and interpretation of chemical, hydrogeologic, and geographic data.
The Environmental Scientist will work independently with Leidos Project Managers and Senior Staff, supervise junior staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors. Applicants should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable working in a team environment with internal and external stakeholders. Strong organizational skills are essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute project tasks as assigned, including cost/schedule, coordination and logistics, and project deliverables.
- Develop project management plans, sampling and analysis plans, waste management plans, subcontractor statements of work (e.g., drilling services, surveying), procurement of materials and supplies for field investigations, coordinate and schedule field activities, support preparation of health and safety plans and other related documentation as required by the project.
- Compile, interpret, and report data to meet project quality assurance requirements under Federal (e.g. CERCLA), state, and/or client programs.
- Prepare technical reports, including complex technical analysis, conceptual site models, and visual data presentations, including maps, cross sections, and data tabulations.
- Development, analysis, and selection of remedial alternatives and exit strategies.
- Comply with Leidos and client Environmental Compliance and Health & Safety programs.
- Prepare and present project findings to clients, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Willing and able to travel to project locations, attend client meetings.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or related field and at least 5 years’ experience, or a Master’s degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years’ experience in the environmental field.
- Interpretation and analysis of chemical, geotechnical, geologic, and/or engineering data to address project/reporting requirements.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional credential or progress toward obtaining certification in field of specialty (e.g, PG, GIT, EIT, Certified Soil Technician, CPSS, etc.).
- Working knowledge of emerging PFAS technical guidance and investigations.
- Prior completion of OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (40-hour HAZWOPER) and OSHA occupational physical exam and medical clearance allowing performance of field work at hazardous waste sites).
- Specialized skills/experience in environmental regulatory requirements; environmental statistical methods (e.g., trend analysis) and software tools (e.g., SAS); environmental databases (e.g., data management); or commonly employed contaminant fate/transport models (e.g., SESOIL, AT123D).
Pay Range:
Pay Range $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 - $135,000.00#Remote
