Leidos is seeking an engineer to work as a Lead Software Engineer to support the development of unmanned autonomous ships. This engineer will be joining an existing team which has already successfully delivered for our customers. A successful candidate will focus on leading a dedicated software development team, developing and deploying software using established processes, mentoring and coaching lower-level developers, and integrating software into our full stack testing suite.
As a lead software engineer, they will be responsible for applying their technical knowledge in the field with minimal supervision. They will be responsible for implementing solutions for entire projects or processes within a technical area given a set of requirements. They will need to be able to coach and delegate work to lower-level technical staff, effectively communicate with customer and cross team stakeholders, and work to influence other team members regarding solution design and approaches.
The work done on this project will be demonstrated in the real world. Some periodic travel may be required within the continental US as part of attending meetings and assisting with testing our unmanned vessels. Our team develops and deploys advanced technology solutions that address existing and emerging maritime missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies and commercial clients. Current and future projects span advanced concept and prototype development, low-rate initial production and full-rate production.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement software solutions given a high-level set of requirements
- Work to influence other team members regarding solution design and approach
- Coach and delegate work to lower-level staff
- Effectively communicate procedures with team members and customers
Basic Qualifications
- Requires BS and 4 – 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 – 6 years of prior relevant experience in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience with the C++ language
- Experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, or other associated Linux distros
- Experience in scons, Cmake, or associated software compilation process
- Experience collaborating in a team environment
- Experience mentoring and coaching other developers
- Must be able to obtain DoD SECRET security clearance – US Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience with Java or Python
- Exposure to Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
