More About the Role:
This Systems Engineering (SE) opportunity on the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Enterprise Network – Recompete (NGEN-R) Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) will allow participation on a high-visibility DoD program that provides engineering support to the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the largest information technology (IT) network in the world. This position will provide many opportunities to challenge and grow your skills as an SE.
A successful candidate will apply sound, efficient Systems Engineering (SE) to develop and manage the foundation of the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practice – creating the SysML model, integrating the MBSE tool suite, and detailing the model-based systems engineering processes – in support of other MBSE system engineers who create, maintain, update, modernize, and refresh the capabilities and components in the NMCI. This position is a member of a small team that is responsible for providing the core competency for MBSE, SysML, MBSE processes, and Cameo Systems Modeler (CSM) and MBSE Tool Suite across the entire NGEN-R SMIT program. This candidate is expected to be hands-on within the model and MBSE tools.
The candidate will utilize an agile MBSE approach that provides rigor, repeatability, and flexibility to support the needs of stakeholders, including our customer and the NGEN-R SMIT team. This position will apply MBSE methods to create and manage the NEN System Model, using SysML and aligned with the NAVWAR EA Profile, enabling support of all SE use cases across the systems engineering lifecycle to realize the full projected value of MBSE.
Provide support using MBSE tools and techniques to define systems interfaces, requirements and behaviors. Support system design, requirements development and functional allocation to hardware, software, operator and other segments and other system components. This position will support model change management and train other systems engineers in MBSE.
Work with IT domain experts to determine how to model NMCI service areas, develop modeling and test case patterns, develop simulation experiments, and identify visualizations for formal/peer technical reviews and analysis. Identify and specify tool automation opportunities to increase efficiency.
Develop SE process model and change management processes/procedures for the model, MBSE style guide and modeling procedures, SysML/model training materials, model-based technical review artifacts. Provide MBSE/SysML/model training to systems engineering team.
What You'll Get to Do:
•Develop and manage the System model to support performance of technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements- developing technical solutions, preparing trade studies, decomposing the solution into system-level requirements.
•Develop and manage the System model to support development of system CONOPS, architecture, and interface definitions of complex systems in an MBSE environment to determine the viability and assess the impacts.
•Establish/Tailor/Adapt the MBSE methodology for the NGEN-R contract and champion MBSE across the enterprise for use in all phases of the system lifecycle, from preliminary initiative and concept analysis through operations and maintenanceDevelop models of system requirements, architecture/design, interfaces, and simulations using No Magic’s Cameo Systems Modeler (CSM) and suite. (Rhapsody expertise may be accepted, but CSM is preferred).
•Provide foundational patterns and cross-cutting model elements to support creation of “to-be” models to capture the structure, behavior, and configuration settings that help assess the impacts/implications of change.
•Develop methodology, define patterns for simulation experiments, and support other systems engineers in utilizing CSM’s Simulation Toolkit and other simulation tools to run simulations on the system baseline or evolving system designs or in the context of realistic mock-ups of the intended user interface.
•Develop model/ MBSE methodology to support Engineering Planning and Risk Management to anticipate demand
•Develop model/ MBSE methodology to provide Security Engineering/ RMF Support by assessing design compliance with cyber security requirements
•Define and support management of models and derived work products consistent with project configuration and data management processes and standards.
•Translate systems engineering processes from traditional document-based system engineering efforts to delivery of model-based work products to customers as required.
•Provide input to the NGEN-R SMIT MBSE Implementation and Style Guide, the MBSE Training Plan, develop training exercises, and train the Team, other NGEN-R service providers, and the Government on its application.Develop foundational model elements to support architecture and design of solutions with proven reusable patterns.
•Collaborate and coordinate with external customers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.
•Mentor junior team members on Systems Engineering, MBSE, SysML, and CSM.
•Lead MBSE-related activities as requested (e.g., modeling MBSE processes, developing patterns, test cases, and simulations based on input from domain experts, identifying MBSE tool integration requirements).
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
•Requires B.S. Degree and 4-8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2-6 years of prior relevant experience (in System Engineering, Software Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college or university).
•Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
•Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
•Experience applying MBSE methods, tools, and frameworks to develop rigorous specifications and designs of commercial and/or DoD systems/components.
•Able to synthesize knowledge from multiple domains to apply to new, complicated problems.
•Experience working in large enterprise operations environments that include: identification, development, analysis of enterprise IT activities, solutions/risk mitigations, artifacts and migrations.
•Experience applying systems engineering fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments.
•Experience in collaborating with other enterprise technologists both internal and external to resolve complex technical issues.
•Knowledge of MBSE tools such as:
-No Magic’s Cameo Systems Modeler, Collaborator, Teamwork Cloud.
-MBSE tools (Magic Draw or Rational Rhapsody).
•Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
•Must be able to work independently to develop innovative modeling approaches and optimizations.
•Communication skills for interacting with Government customers, colleagues, and senior leadership.
•Travel may be required (post COVID).

•Defense industry experience.
•Familiarity with the following tools:
-BMC ITSM Suite
-Syndeia Model Federator
-Riverbed Netplanner or other similar network and/or data center detailed design tools
Pay Range:Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00
