Job Description:

The Marine Systems Division of Leidos has an immediate opening for a mid-level software developer to support US Navy programs involving ocean survey and maritime autonomy.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Candidate will participate in team efforts in support of U.S. Government and commercial clients on contracts for marine system design, development, testing, integration, documentation and maintenance.  The work is based in Newport, RI.

Candidate will work on problems of moderate scope supporting requirements definition, design, development, and testing of integrated oceanographic and geophysical data acquisition, and data processing systems.  Typical sensors integrated in the shipboard environment include positioning systems, vertical reference systems, multi-beam sonar systems, side-scan sonar systems, and sound velocity profiling sensors.

As part of the Software Engineering Team the candidate may be required to support at seas operations and some international travel may be required.  Applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for obtaining a U.S. Government Security clearance to the level of SECRET.

The candidate may direct a team of one to two other engineers.

REQUIED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Requires BS and 4 – 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 – 6 years of prior relevant experience; strong background in mathematics, physical sciences, computer-based system integration and networking, and structured software development.  Candidates should have at least five years experience developing software using the C, or C++ programming languages on Linux or Windows operating systems.  Candidate must have a strong background in computer-based system integration and networking and be capable of supporting software quality initiatives.  This would include at least two years of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) familiarity.  Candidate must have interest in working in a team environment solving complex problems associated with sensor data integration, data fusion, and information extraction.

DESIRED SKILLS:  Experience with ANSI C Programming language on Windows and/or Linux operating systems.  Previous experience in the ocean sciences field strongly desired.  Previous experience with user interface design, development, and/or testing is strongly desired. Previous software development experience using Qt, OpenGL, Java, X Windows, TCL/TK, is strongly desired.  Background in object oriented software design and development is beneficial.  Experience with any marine trades or marine operations a plus.
