Description

Job Description:

The Electronic Warfare Division has an opening for a RF Front End Engineer with technical leader responsibilities.

This is a technical engineering position to develop RF front ends for new laboratory-based seekers to prove out concepts for future advanced high speed weapons systems for the US Air Force.   Leidos intends for this candidate to also serve as Program Manager on two ongoing efforts and to assume leadership of a 3 person team.  You will work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world and provide valuable input to the development of new seeker systems.

The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded, and continuous learning is the norm.  The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.

The seekers team operates in a relaxed self-directed mode of operation where individuals are expected to work in small teams to solve challenging problems.  Current needs include an experienced RF Front End engineer who can design, develop, and test RF hardware to prove out multifunction radio capabilities for future weapons systems.  Candidates that have the skills and experience to support this effort should apply.

Preferred candidates will have experience in overall RF seeker system design and architecting.  We are seeking candidates that are familiar with vendors supplying RF components such as: power amplifiers, limiters, filters, attenuators, oscillators, mixers, etc.  Candidates should have experience in assembling these components into transmitters and receivers and should also have laboratory and/or field testing experience with RF systems.  To excel in this role, you will have prior experience with military radar systems and/or experience in architecting such systems.  Candidates with related and transferable skills will be considered.

Program management duties would include the financial management of 2 contracts which would be expected to involve less than 20% of the role.  Experience in financial management and program management is desired, but on the job training may be considered for candidates with exceptional RF skills and experience.

Required Clearance:  Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.

Experience Level:   Leidos will consider candidates at multiple experience levels with strong preference provided to those with demonstrated experience in the engineering skills related to RF system architecting and testing and development of RF systems.

Education:   Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Engineering or Science discipline and 4+ years of experience.  Candidates with additional relevant experience including previous PM related experience preferred.

Communication Skills:  Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos and Government RF engineers, as well as aerodynamics, airframe, and guidance and control personnel, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users.   Must be able to lead or support design reviews and be able to effectively document and present design decisions. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them.   Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis to include monthly and annual reports detailing technical progress of the team as well as reporting on expenditures.

Required Skills:  Demonstrated recent and relevant experience with one or more of the following disciplines is required:
•    Experience in RF front end design.
•    Experience with the design and development of military radars.

Desired Skills: Preferred candidates will in addition have recent and relevant skills with the following:

•    Prior experience in the design of airborne RF seekers
•    Prior experience in the design of FPGA based systems for RF seekers
•    Programming experience using Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C++

TRAVEL:  Attend technical reviews and professional conferences, estimated < 10%.
