Leidos is looking for a high performing candidate to fill a position supporting the nation's nuclear deterrence mission with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) for the Life Extension Program (LEP) Division. The work performed is extensive in scope and requires experienced individuals with demonstrated program/project management, appropriate technical expertise, self-starting, ability to work in a highly dynamic environment, and interface with broad range of federal and military senior staff and leadership.
The immediate need is for a full-time individual as a Senior Nuclear Component Engineer to provide technical and component production tracking support to the Federal Nuclear Components Lead Engineer, as well as liaison with other Defense Programs (DP) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) organizations associated with the program. The individual will coordinate with NNSA Federal engineers and other technical staff to support continuous production efforts of Physics Laboratory designed components for the program.
Broadly, the duties and responsibilities include:
- Tracking programmatic deliverables.
- Reviewing and summarizing production reports for management.
- Developing and maintaining progress tracking tools.
- Applying common problem-solving techniques to technical challenges; proactive identification of potential issues impacting production/delivery schedules and reporting such to the Federal Lead Engineer.
- Willingness to work with and travel to multiple NNSA Design and Production Agencies.
- Travel is anticipated to be ~10-15% per year.
This is a full-time contractor-support position ultimately located on-site at the NNSA offices in Albuquerque, NM; situational teleworking will be permitted.
In this role, the individual will coordinate with NNSA federal and contractor programmatic and technical staff, and Management and Operating (M&O) contractor personnel. The individual will help to provide a comprehensive, coordinated approach to successfully managing and executing the B61-12 LEP nuclear component production activities and may participate in weekly management reviews of production activities, including providing insight to federal and M&O working level teams and decision makers.
Analyze information and review system requirements for workflow, organization, and corrective measures. Apply process improvement practices for monitoring the production life cycle. Understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within nuclear weapon component acquisition and product realization. Exercise judgment, plan and accomplish goals based upon program planning and mission performance. Work independently, creatively and under general supervision.
Relevant expertise and roles and responsibilities include:
Proficiency in analyzing the transition of nuclear component requirements, interfaces, linkages, and technical risk mitigation activities associated with program scope into an integrated schedule with schedule and cost risk contingency analysis.
Demonstrated ability to assess and provide program and technical management knowledge and capabilities to advise FPO on execution of cost, scope, and schedule for development and production activities.
Knowledge of and experience with NNSA Defense Programs programmatic and portfolio analysis tools, databases, and methodologies.
Ability to absorb broad objectives from management, then independently analyze, evaluate, and integrate solutions for unusually complex and diverse technical problems.
Identify, track, mitigate, and resolve technical risks and issues related to product and/or production metrics and schedules
Participating in Product Realization Team (PRT) meetings.
Attending and participating in major NNSA program and site review meetings and within guidance provided by the Lead Engineer and/or Federal Program Manager.
Supporting special topic engagements as assigned.
Knowledge of the NNSA Nuclear Weapons programs and activities; missions, policies, and objectives; management principles and processes; and the analytical and evaluative methods and techniques for assessing program development or execution and improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency with emphasis on 6.X process and Defense Programs Business Process System.
Contributing to and/or leading assessments of current and needed capability and capacity of the NNSA weapons production complex for the B61-12 Program and recommend necessary facility and resource planning based on this information.
Experience/Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
Active DOD TS or DOE Q clearance.
As a mid-career position, 10-15 years of relevant experience in a production environment desired.
Previous experience in DOE Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) production activities desired.
Manufacturing and production floor experience in NNSA, DOD, government or corporate environments required.
NNSA/DOD Interagency experience.
Managing interdisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of program and project management/scheduling tools and techniques.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing and editing briefings for senior and executive managers.
Some travel is required; currently anticipated to be in the range of 10-15% per year.
