Job Description:
The Electronic Warfare Division of Leidos is seeking a Chief Software Engineer (CSE). The CSE will lead software product development, hardware integration, and delivery of a complex real-time tactical system in a highly dynamic and challenging environment. He/she oversees the design, development, documentation, testing and fielding of complex real-time software systems. This includes assessing or reassessing functional requirements that are accordingly modified for implementation within a tactical system-of-systems such as military combatant aircraft. The CSE applies appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. He/she supports the Program Manager by managing all software engineering efforts related to budgets and schedules. The CSE also manages the software engineering portion of proposals.
Performing these responsibilities will include significant collaboration and coordination with external customers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and a multi-disciplined team to design and integrate tactical software within systems that include GPUs, DSPs, FPGAs, and sensors. The CSE requires strong skills in proactive communication and building of collaborative relationships.
The CSE shall mentor and support the development of junior engineers. The CSE shall support the management team in all activities necessary to maintain organizational operation.
Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Candidates must possess an active DoD Secret clearance to start.
Telecommuting options may be considered but the ability to regularly attend in-person program requirements in the Arlington, VA office is required.
Required Qualifications
BS or Master’s Degree accompanied with 12+ years’ related experience.
•Technical experience in software engineering, systems engineering, system architecture, software architecture, and/or related fields
•Experience in the following:
o Leading development of a software-based operational system
o Taking a program through the Design Reviews, including SRR, PDR, and CDR
o Developing formal DoD requirements
o Requirements traceability for software systems (RVTM)
o Creating DoDAF artifacts
o CMMI, including the generation of appropriate artifacts
o V&V, including automated testing of systems
o Writing systems and/or software engineering documents (SDP, etc.)
o Development of formal interface control documents for either software or hardware (IDDs/ICDs)
o Shaping and leading a diverse multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic environment
o Developing detailed plans/schedules in support of technical assignments
o Presenting and conveying focused messages to external customers, program management, and teammates
o Establishing formal development processes and procedures
o Leading integration of software or hardware into another vendor’s embedded system
o Leading integration of software or hardware from a third party
o Leading junior engineers in developing, modeling, testing, and integrating algorithms in Matlab/Octave, Simulink, C++, Python, or VHDL
o Analyze results from simulation or real data to identify root causes and trends
o Must have active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

o Transitioning R&D software to an operational system
o Leading teams within the DoD policies and procedures for operational software maintenance, modification and configuration management for a major DoD acquisition command
o Requirements tracking tools, such as DOORS
o Team collaboration tools, such as Jira and Confluence
o Open systems architectures and approaches
o Model-Based software development methodologies, including the Rational Unified Process (RUP)
o Modeling and simulation development tools, such as Matlab/Simulink, Jupyter Notebook
o UML
o Software configuration management tools, such as SVN and GIT
o Software development environments such as Visual Studio or Eclipse
o FPGA development environments such as Vivado
o GPU development API’s such as CUDA
o AI/ML architectures such as CNNs, RNNs, and GANs
•Ability to work with effectively with different engineering disciplines, including hardware, systems engineering, test and integration, and signal processing
•Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
