Job Description:

The concept of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) comes from the Google engineering team and is credited to Ben Treynor Sloss. SRE is a software engineering approach to IT operations whereby software is used as a tool to manage systems, solve problems, and automate operations tasks.

Standardization and automation are 2 important components of the SRE model. Site reliability engineers should always be looking for ways to enhance and automate operations tasks.  SRE supports teams who are moving from a traditional approach to IT operations to a cloud-native approach with the understanding the survivability and reliability are centerpieces to proposed solutions.

A site reliability engineer is a unique role that requires either a background as a software developer with additional operations experience, or as a sysadmin or in an IT operations role that also has software development skills.

You feel you have some or most of the qualities, but not all?  No problem, Leidos supports our employees’ development for success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding

  • Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning

  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Data Driven Operations (DDO) approaches to enhance cybersecurity, eliminate toil, know what is broken and why, automate everything, and keep it simple while improving network operations, enterprise management, and reliability

  • Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing transformative capabilities forward, anticipating customer needs/requirements, and innovating to continually improve end-to-end service delivery

  • Support the design, engineering, and coordination of legacy environment migrations (e.g. On Prem to the AWS/Azure Cloud environments)

  • Coordinate and support local change control boards and provide installation, configuration, engineering, administration, and accreditation documents/diagrams for the infrastructure life cycle replacements upgrades, enhancements, and new technology deployments

  • Apply principles, approaches, and techniques for digital transformation to achieve an intelligent, highly automated, efficient, software-defined Digital Enterprise of Tomorrow with edge-to-core visibility

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional experience considered in lieu of Masters degree.

  • Application development background (e.g. Java/JavaScript, JSON, Python, etc..)

  • ITIL Foundations

  • DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA Cloud+ or CASP+

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and experience

  • Active DoD SECRET clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on keyboard technology implementation background

  • Experience with various Element management systems

  • AWS Certification
