Leidos has a long-term customer who we have supported in all areas of IT operations since the client’s first outsourcing engagement over 20 years ago. We’re seeking a Systems Specialist with experience managing server infrastructures and data-center operations across multiple platforms who is motivated by variety, seeking a challenging environment for professional growth, and is interested in designing, developing, and deploying technical solutions in a collaborative team environment.
Travel: This position requires occasional (25%) travel to within our customer’s service territory area (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas).
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of assignments associated with installing, maintaining, and controlling computer operating systems. This position requires an experienced, self-motivating individual capable of performing in a fast-paced development environment, as well as interacting effectively with key customers and users. This person will provide our client with infrastructure solutions for applications residing on Wintel systems. The candidate should have an experienced background in networking including switches, firewalls, and intrusion prevention devices.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and deploy architectures and infrastructure for enterprise applications.
- Install, monitor, optimize, problem resolution, root cause analysis, management and documentation of all server-related issues including operating system and hardware.
- Evaluate and install hardware and software updates.
- Investigate and recommend methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Initiate preventive maintenance on the operating systems as well as repair to system/environment problems.
- Interfaces with vendors for trouble calls.
- Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and provide guidance to other team members.
- Plan system/environment, and technical requirements for individual projects.
- Responsible for design and implementation to update legacy and non-supported OS version to current standards.
- Consultation and implementation of utilizing virtualization technology to reduce Data Center real estate footprint and support costs.
- Consultation and implementation of automation of day-to-day routine jobs and setting up the infrastructure of the containerization of legacy applications.
- Implement system monitor to verify integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; analyze system and application logs; verify completion of scheduled tasks.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of operating systems experience. High school diploma with an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of Windows Server Operating Systems running on HP server hardware.
- Requires a strong background in the installation, modification, and support of Windows Server Operating Systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Expertise in overall server infrastructure including networking, naming services, patch management, virtualization, and security.
- Should have working knowledge of DELL, HP server hardware, installation, configuration, and maintenance processes, Cisco switches, and routers, as well as basic firewall rule principles and intrusion detection using Juniper devices.
- Strong knowledge and experience to handle seldom occurring job events is a must.
- Must also demonstrate the ability to perform problem analysis, logically organize and prepare technical documentation, and effectively communicate.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware and software fundamentals.
- Ability to handle complex assignments including multiple project assignments at one time
- Ability to be trained in client's Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) program and pass client's background check.
