Job Description
Leidos is seeking a full time Public Affairs Specialist to provide onsite support to a Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) customer located in downtown Washington, DC. The position requires experience exercising mature judgment and making independent decisions in accordance with established policies, rules and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
Advise NNSA senior managers on public affairs and media communication including digital media, social media, and information activities related to targeted key NNSA constituencies through performance of the duties and responsibilities below:
Analyze and recommend outreach strategies and policies to promote NNSA programs and provide information about NNSA to the general public and media. Implements relevant actions to support and achieve DOE/NNSA goals concerning public awareness and public communications formats that allow full and open communication both internally and among state, local, and community groups.
Determine the need for informational materials to support NNSA programs and provides news releases, feature stories, speeches, etc., to the media. In partnership with the scheduler and responsible program officers, prepare the Administrator and senior NNSA management for public meetings and media interviews by developing themes, talking points, background information, and other pertinent materials.
Serve as a primary public affairs liaison to assigned programs and attend weekly meetings to integrate public affairs into strategic planning.
Develop timely, high-quality written products that promote NNSA strategic objectives, policies, and programs; review and edit products to ensure they are consistent in style and formatting.
Assist Public Affairs Federal staff in pitching stories to reporters and facilitating media interviews and press conferences.
Schedule, post, and monitor activity on NNSA’s social media platforms.
Assist in the maintenance of a database of media relations activity, media contact lists, news clips, speaking engagements, and other public affairs activity as necessary; track, prepare, and distribute news clips and other public affairs content as necessary.
Assist in development of videos and informational graphics that clearly explain complex, technical activities and issues (includes taking photos and videos of program activities and official NNSA ceremonies).
Assist in the maintenance of a long-term social media engagement calendar with recurring annual critical events, relevant historical anniversaries, and opportunities to promote NNSA.
Basic Qualifications
DOE Q clearance or Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a DOE Q
Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with one year of prior relevant experience.
Prior experienced in Federal government public affairs; writing press releases, Congressional communications, speeches/testimony, etc.
Demonstrable competence with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and Federal civilian and/or military systems.
Excellent written (including grammar, punctuation, and copy editing) and verbal communication skills.
Experience interacting with mid-level management required; interaction with senior management level preferred.
Self-starter, possesses the ability to work in a highly dynamic environment, and have an ability to interface with a broad range of federal civilian, military senior staff and leadership, stakeholders, and the media.
Preferred Qualifications
Four or more years of prior relevant experience.
Experience working in government, DOE, or DOD environment.
Experience working within NNSA.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $52,650.00 - $81,000.00 - $109,350.00#Remote
