Description

Job Description:

The Electronic Warfare Division has an opening for a Program Manager of R&D Efforts.

This is primarily a Program Management position with the opportunity to contribute technically to ongoing and future R&D efforts.  Leidos is looking for a Program Manager (PM) for three active contracts with AFRL at Eglin AFB.  The role requires oversight and management of finances as well as ensuring that monthly reports and other contract deliverables are completed on time and on budget.  The program manager will also assume people management of five or more staff with the opportunity to grow the team.  The PM will also be responsible for interacting with the Government PM’s to make sure that the R&D efforts remain on track and to address emerging needs.  The PM will be expected to gather intelligence on upcoming business opportunities and take a leadership role in preparing new proposals.  The PM will be responsible for providing monthly updates to Leidos management.

Candidates who also have skills and experience in RF seekers and in missile design will also have the opportunity to contribute technically and thus could be hired at a higher salary level.

The PM will work directly with organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world and provide valuable input to the development of new seeker systems and advanced missile designs.   The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded, and continuous learning is the norm.  The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.

Preferred candidates will have had experience in managing USAF R&D programs and will be intimately familiar with the Government contracting process.   These candidates will have experience interacting with Government PMs and will have led successful proposal efforts.  Candidates with transferable skills, such as working with other DOD research organizations, will be considered.

For experienced candidates, program management duties would likely include the management of 3 contracts and the associated personnel and these efforts would be expected to encompass approximately 50% of the role.  Developing proposals and growing new work would be expected to be 20% of the role.  The remaining time would be expected to be spent in a technical role.  For less experienced PMs, the dual PM and growing new work duties would likely encompass 90%+ time, however as experience is gained this percentage would decrease over time and enable the transition to technical work or the management of additional programs.

Required
Clearance:  Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance.
Experience Level:   Leidos will consider candidates at multiple experience levels with strong preference provided to those with demonstrated experience in Program Management of AFRL research programs.  Prior experience in air launched missiles and RF seekers is also a plus.

Education:   Degree in Engineering from an accredited University and 8+ years of experience.

Communication Skills:  Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Government Program Managers, Leidos management, contracting officers and financial personnel as well as RF, aerodynamics, airframe, and guidance and control engineers.  Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them.   Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis to include monthly and annual reports detailing technical progress of the team as well as reporting on expenditures.

Required Skills:  Demonstrated recent and relevant experience with one or more of the following disciplines is required:

  • Prior experience in program management of $5M class programs

  • Prior experience in leading and managing a team of engineers

Desired Skills: Preferred candidates will in addition have recent and relevant skills with the following:

  • Prior experience in the design of airborne RF seekers

  • Prior experience in the design of FPGA based systems for RF seekers

  • Prior experience in conceptual design of air to air missiles

  • Programming experience using Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C++

TRAVEL:  Brief Leidos management on technical programs, estimated < 10%.
