Leidos has an opening for a Human Factors Design Engineer. The Human Factors Design Engineer will support the Anthropometry and Biomechanics Facility (ABF) at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The ABF performs anthropometric, biomechanical, ergonomic, and human factors evaluations of flight equipment and procedures, including evaluation of current and future space suit designs. The ABF utilizes motion analysis systems, force sensing devices, anthropometric measuring devices, and computer modeling/analysis. This position will work with scientists and engineers in the ABF to complete operational evaluations and analyses. Tasks will include study design, data collection, data reduction and analysis, and preparation of technical reports and presentations.
Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to length investigation for non-U.S. persons.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with ABF Technical Leads to plan and implement operational evaluations to assess anthropometry, human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, and risk of injury
- Assist with preparation of support documentation for studies, including Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.
- Perform equipment set-up, calibration, and monitoring for tests/evaluations
- Carry out experiments with human test subjects
- Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methods
- Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations
- Present technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
- Archive data per NASA policy
- Provide inputs to weekly and monthly status reports
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and team
- Serve as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basis
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human factors/ergonomics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field, plus 8-10 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; employee will be required to work and communicate with human test subjects, astronauts, and personnel across multiple JSC directorates
- Highly motivated with developed organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects
- Understanding of human performance capabilities and human-system interactions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both formal and informal
- Strong programming skills including MATLAB, Python and/or R
- Standard PC and Microsoft Office skills for preparation of documents and presentations
- Experience with CAD and human modeling tools: SolidWorks, ProE, Blender, Polyworks
- Experience in human-hardware system interactions
Desired Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in human factors/ergonomics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Experience with NASA standards and requirements or similar experience with a broad set of human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry requirements
- Experience conducting or supporting human health and performance research
- Applicable certifications, including Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or CPHF (Certified Professional in Human Factors)
- Knowledge of occupational musculoskeletal disorders/injuries
- Experience with motion capture systems and analysis of kinematic data
- Experience with bioinstrumentation and data acquistion systems
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
- Experience with Siemens Jack or other human modeling software
- Experience in artificial intelligence or machine learning
- Experience in 3D analytical assessment of geometry
Pay Range:
Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00Covid Guidance
