Job Description:
The Mission Support Operation is currently soliciting qualified Editors for a language services contract supporting an Intelligence Community customer in the National Capital Region (NCR). Editors shall provide leadership and expertise to ensure that all products are grammatically correct according to idiomatic American English and meet designated style standards according to guides like the OSE Operations and Style Guide and individual lexicons maintained by different issue areas.
Primary Responsibilities
Copyedit and proofread Sponsor textual and visual products
Abide by and support the Sponsor’s production workflow, including dissemination to designated customers
Generate reports from appropriate Sponsor system(s) to maintain monthly record of completed production editing
Format documents to adhere to Sponsor’s product standards and ensure a consistent look and feel to Sponsor products
Apply the appropriate metadata to products created in one of the Sponsor’s production systems and verify that each product appears in the correct format in the Sponsor’s dissemination platform
Convert Sponsor products that are created in Microsoft Word into PDF files in compliance with Sponsor standards
Respond promptly to requests for production editing services in Sponsor service request systems
Examine product content to determine dissemination metadata and remove extraneous metadata
Reduce file size, including minimizing file sizes of Microsoft Word, PDF, and video files to meet dissemination requirements
Create products with accurate metadata and file information in POW! Or other Sponsor production system
Conduct, on a daily basis, quality control review of products not created, edited, or disseminated by contract personnel, and provide feedback to staff product author as needed when product does not meet Sponsor and/or Agency standards
As requested, provide feedback on Sponsor’s QA program based on contract personnel’s expertise and experience in copy-editing and proofreading.
Perform regular quality checks of select Sponsor-authored products against a Sponsor quality rubric, and provide feedback to staff product author(s) regarding whether products meet Sponsor quality standards;
Provide feedback to Sponsor personnel on quality of products using Sponsor-designated rubric, to include scores on tradecraft quality and qualitative feedback on each product, including suggestions for improvement.
Advise Sponsor reviewers, as needed, on best practices for editing Sponsor products to adhere to Sponsor standards for unclassified and classified products
Advise Sponsor authors, as needed, to ensure that production aligns with Sponsor tradecraft standards for unclassified and classified products, including dissemination best practices
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in English and 8 – 12 years of demonstrated experience editing in a professional setting or Master’s Degree in a related field with 6 – 10 years of prior relevant experience.
Active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph clearance and ability to work on site at customer location in NOVA
- Demonstrated experience editing or performing quality assurance
Excellent knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, and punctuation, as demonstrated by minimum three years experience in an editorial position in a professional setting
Familiarity with Agency Security Classification Guides (SCGs) and Classification Management Tool (CMT), and general publication requirements for the Directorate of Analysis’ (DA) Electronic Dissemination Team (EDT) and Foreign Disclosure Team (FDT)
Demonstrated excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills by successfully conducting these skills for three years in an editorial position
Proficiency in standard digital publishing computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and others, as needed
Proven success working productively with a culturally diverse workforce
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and take corrective action
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities, maintaining flexibility and versatility
Strong familiarity with OSE style and ops guide
Experience using customer tools including OSN, POW!, and ATOM.
Work will occur during hours of operation for editorial production and dissemination support are Monday through Friday from 0800 to 2000 local time. Additional hours of operation on nights and/or weekends may be required for crisis support or in support of critical production and dissemination.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity working on visualization dashboards and Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL), in a professional setting.
Current DTO status or ability to obtain training and maintain certification as primary and back-up Data Transfer Officer (DTO)
Pay Range:
Pay Range $94,250.00 - $145,000.00 - $195,750.00Covid Guidance
