Leidos is seeking an Architectural Designer to support the Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The Designer will work as part of the Projects, Planning, and Integration (PPI) – Engineering & Estimating Team.  The Designer will work within AutoCad® and Revit® to design and model architectural and structural layout for small structures and portions of major buildings for multi-year government projects in extreme winter environments for three (3) Antarctic stations including field camps.

The Leidos Corporation has been selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as the Prime Contractor for supporting U.S. research sites in Antarctica.

The mission support program is currently in the early stages of a planned 10-year upgrade to transform one station, and undertake projects to upgrade and sustain other existing stations, facilities, infrastructure and services. The Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) program team is based in Centennial, Colorado and funded by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF). 

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Architectural Designer is responsible for working as part of the Engineering team conceptualizing the initial design and providing detailed design including architectural design and structural plans for station facilities and utilities.  

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.  Applies broad and diversified knowledge of design standards and practices in the preparation of engineering department deliverables that comply with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.

  • Specific Job Duties Include:

  • Work from sketches, existing drawings, technical guides, manufacturer’s catalogs, and/or verbal information supplied by engineering or facilities to develop design models &/or drawings with appropriate views, details and supplementary information to complete assignments.

  • Prepare and review accurate clash free models within Revit® to BIM LOD 350.

  • Working knowledge of the facility system and method of discipline design and drawing production

  • Prepare clear, concise detailed design drawings that comply with applicable design codes, standards, design criteria, engineering sketches, and constructability requirements.  

  • Finalize drawings post-construction utilizing as-built procedure. 

  • Use 3D Laser Scan/Lidar point cloud data within AutoCAD®/Revit® framework for 3D model generation.

  • Additional tasking: clash detection, blue-beam 3D-PDF conversion, Navisworks, Building Revit families & libraries and working with outside A/E firms if/when needed.

  • Interface with other disciplines and functions in order to effectively and efficiently develop design deliverables.

  • Perform assignments requiring field, design/drafting experience and the use of mathematical skills to compute weights, dimensions, quantities of materials, and/or applicable 2D / 3D computer graphics software skills.

  • Building Plans / Elevations / Details

  • Floor and Roof Plans

  • Architectural Schedules

  • Foundation Plans

  • Framing Plans & Details

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate technology degree with concentration of study in Engineering Design Graphics and/or 6 years relevant industry work experience.

  • Experience using Revit® and AutoCad®, 2016 or later versions.

  • Understanding specifications, codes and design criteria and incorporate into end product.

  • Experience in facilities projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge & application of IBC, NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, and AISC.

  • Knowledge of tools and applications for 3D Laser Scan/Lidar interface with AutoCAD®.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft® Excel and Word.

Deployment to Antarctica may be required in this position at discretion of management.  If required, the individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations, and psychological examination for winter-over positions, as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. 

US citizenship or permanent residence is required. 

Pay Range:

Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00
