Job Description:

This Electrical Engineer position provides support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Services Group under the National Air-Space Implementation Support Contract (NISC) with respect to Power Systems and Lightning and Surge Protection, Grounding, Bonding and Shielding (LPGBS).

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards and best practices and provide recommendations for solutions in all phases of the system’s lifecycle including: contract, policy, site survey, design and design review, and implementation.

  • Participate in site survey, technical evaluation, development of LPGBS systems, administration, project planning and implementation.

  • Provide technical support to solve, troubleshoot, maintain systems, resolve outages, equipment noise, EM interference and other lightning protection, grounding, bonding and shielding related issues.

  • Break down complex issues into tasks and prepare scope of work and cost estimate based on government’s work break down structure.

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering disciplines such as power systems, communications, RF, analog and digital systems.

  • Participate in National Change Proposals, Configuration Control Board processes, and development of departmental website


The desired requirements for this position are as follows:

  • Knowledge  of electrical power systems, RF communication systems, lightning protection and grounding, surge protective devices, bonding, and shielding is a must.

  • 2 years prior experience on RF systems components (radars, antennas, frequency propagations, and radio transmitter/receiver circuits).

  • Familiarity and/or experience with radios, complex control systems, radio base stations, repeaters, and FCC spectrum protocols.

  • Must have a strong technical electronics background, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to conduct failure analysis.

  • Prior experience integrating complex hardware/software system.

  • Experience working with MIL-STD-188-124, EMP, ESD, EMI and EMC.

  • The ideal candidate must have strong writing skills exhibited through engineering reports, white papers, or publications.

  • Experience with some or all of the following are desired: transients in power distribution systems, engine generator, UPS, grounding, lightning protection.

  • Familiarity with industry standards, such as IEEE Emerald Book, UL 1449, NFPA 780, NEC, ANSI C62 and other industry standards related to LPGBS.

  • The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of communication and/or radio towers, radar systems, and associated equipment components.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards and best practices and provide recommendations for solutions in all phases of the system’s lifecycle including: contract, policy, site survey, design and design review, and implementation.

  • Participate in the site survey, technical evaluation, development, administration, management, and strategy of project planning and implementation.

  • Prepare technical reports, identify systemic problems and provide recommendations, including cost estimate and project prioritization, for government clients.

  • Break down complex issues into task and prepare scope of work and cost estimate based on government’s LPGBS work break down structure.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 7 years of professional experience; or 5 years of professional experience with a Master degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience with RF communications, power systems, lightning protection and grounding, bonding and shielding transients in power systems, and ESD, EMI, and RFI mitigation.

  • Writing skills exhibited through exhibited through engineering reports, white papers, or publications.

  • Technical expertise through experience in engineering design and research and development.

  • Familiarity with FAA systems (i.e. VOR, PAPI, ILS, Radars, NAVAIDS, ATCT, TRACON, ARTCC), FAA standards as well as military and industry standards such as IEEE Emerald Book, UL 1449, NFPA 780, NEC, ANSI C62 and other industry standards related to LPGBS is a plus.

  • Willing to travel, approximately 30% of the time.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
