Responsibilities will include performing routine aspects of power system engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles such as the following:
- Protection and Controls design
- Arrangement and layout design
- Equipment selection and specification
- Component and material assemblies
- One and three-line diagrams
- Knowledge of contemporary protection microprocessor based equipment and integration of same into operating schemes functioning with distributed intelligence
- Control and protection schemes including the preparation of schematics and wiring diagrams
- Application and interconnection of SCADA systems
- Substation grounding analysis and design
- Cabling and wiring and associated conduit systems
In addition, the Associate Engineer will:
- Efficiently execute protection and control relay design and deliver on schedule, high quality work products following company quality procedures and client standards.
- Identify, prepare technical documentation, communicate and resolve project issues with lead engineer and project manager
- Collaborate with engineers across disciplines and identify and resolve potential design issues to assure complete and quality work product
- Apply client standards, national standards (NESC, IEEE & IEC) and applicable state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements, and construction codes
- Work with other within the organization and provide guidance and mentorship on power systems engineering tasks, industry standards and best engineering practices.
Successful candidates must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget. This position will be a member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians and will work with client standards to implement design
Required Education & Experience:
• B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
• Entry level engineer experience with 1+ year of experience with either internships and coops, and/or course work with electric utility design preferred
• Engineer Intern (“”EI” or “EIT”) professional certification preferred
• Knowledge of substation design and protective relaying a plus
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations
• Team player who can work effectively in team environment
• Self-starter who work independently with minimal direction
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required when interfacing with clients and staff
• Detail oriented
• Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver in both team and independent environments
• High level of computer competency
