Job Description:
The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a Research Scientist II to support the Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts for Casualty Care (CIBACC) department at the Naval Medical Research Unit, San Antonio (NAMRU-SA). NAMRU-SA conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
Primary Responsibilities
The ideal candidate shall:
Develop, lead, and conduct protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspects of military medicine, including, but not limited to: hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, biomedical systems, bioassay development craniofacial, infectious diseases and directed energy bioeffects.
Provide support in writing protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Evaluate data sets.
Develop various presentation materials and present findings at technical and professional meetings.
Prepare experimental subjects, set up experimental equipment, and aid in training and development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.
Provide support in development of establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.
Oversee junior personnel associated with research projects; manage research data.
Perform surgical procedures on animal models for both survival and non-survival.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have completed a PhD (with two years Postdoctoral experience) from an accredited US university, or international university of equivalent standard, in biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
Candidates must have significant experience developing and leading experimental research protocols as well as experience in in vitro cell culture work and small animal models of trauma.
Experience in grant proposal writing, scientific manuscript writing, and research presentation at meetings.
The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with surgical procedures in small animals, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
