Associate Project Manager - Electric Utilities

Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Manager within the System Planning group who will manage a team of engineers and work for various clients supported by the Power Delivery Solutions (PDS) division throughoutthe United States. The position will require a mixture of technical, team management, and client management capabilities.  These tasks will include, but are not limited to, an understanding of work being performed as well as capabilities to provide quality control reviews of final deliverables, training of staff members in different technical areas, regular communication with clients regarding project performance, and support of our project management teams around technical and financial progress..

The Electrical Engineering Manager will be part of an established System Planning team within the PDS Division that provides consulting services to both public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. These consulting services provide clients with various distribution and transmission planning tasks and projects nationwide.

Electrical Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage a direct team of 3 to 5 engineers, designs, and/or technicians
  • Manage small and large client projects which can consist of small 2 to 3 personnel and larger teams with 10 or more personnel
  • Attend weekly internal calls with project teams to provide status updates and work assignments
  • Attend weekly external calls with the client and discuss weekly progress and address any outstanding requests
  • Provide training and support to junior level resources in CAPE, ASPEN, system modeling, compliance standards, and other relevant fields of work
  • Work alongside account managers and business development managers to expand business with new clients
  • Perform updates to tracking documentation and confirm the project team is providing updates within the documentation as well
  • Adhere to project budgets and confirm the individuals with the team are meeting their allocated time budgets
  • Interface with the client engineers to provide individual support as needed
  • Utilize client systems to gather project data and perform project tasks
  • Provide quality control reviews of personnel to confirm accuracy and consistency of project deliverables
  • Work alongside the section manager and section leads to grow the team and business providing quality additions to the team, new client opportunities, and collateral for the industry

Electrical Engineering Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required with four (4) + years of relevant experience or a Masters with two (2) + years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with electric power industry and knowledge of business issues associated with electric tilities
  • Must have the capability of managing and training a team of engineers directly or indirectly and interacting directly with client project managers and engineers.
  • Experience with CAPE, ASPEN, CYME, MS Office Suite
  • General knowledge of distribution and/or transmission systems, distribution and/or transmission protection, distribution generation, inverter-based resource modeling
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder
  • Knowledge of relevant NERC compliance standards
  • Ability to review client RFP documents and develop cost estimates and detailed scope of work documents
  • Ability to take direction from and discuss decisions with supervisor, and to coordinate with peers on projects
  • Must be able to interact with customer representatives in an effective manner in briefings meetings and individual discussions
  • Ability to manage and train teams of engineers
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Periodic travel may be required

Pay Range:

Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
